Schloss Wolfsgarten, Langen (Hesse)

Schloss Wolfsgarten was a former hunting lodge of the ruling family of Hesse-Darmstadt and was established between 1722 and 1724 by Landgrave Ernst Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt. From 1879, Wolfsgarten became a favorite country retreat for Grand Dukes Ludwig IV and his son Ernst Ludwig.

In the 20th century, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig extensively modernised Schloss Wolfsgarten and rearranged the park. In 1918, after the abolition of the monarchy, Wolfsgarten became the principal residence of the former grand ducal family. Today, the Wolfsgarten is the property of the Hessian House Foundation and is open to the public only on two weekends in May during the annual Rhododendrenblüte.

Jugendstilbad, Darmstadt

The architect August Buxbaum designed the Jugendstilbad in Darmstadt and it was built from 1907-1909.

Darmstadt – Mathildenhöhe

These photos were taken after a sunny autumn day in Darmstadt (Hesse), Germany.

The artists’ colony “Mathildenhöhe” was founded in 1899 by Ernest Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and the first exhibition of the artists’ colony took place in 1901. Ernest Ludwig motto was: “My Hesse should flourish, and the art in Hesse too” and he brought together several artists of the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) in Darmstadt: Peter Behrens, Hans Christiansen, Ludwig Habich and Joseph Maria Olbrich.

Darmstadt – Waldkunst

The first sculptur is named “Time Bomb” from Ernest Daetwyler and is placed in the forest near the US army base in Darmstadt. The whole work is built from wooden elements found around Darmstadt: chairs, beds or tables… Everything returned to the point of their origin.

The second installation is 30qm big and is named “A little spider can build much more complex things” from Elena Redaelli.

The Herrngarten is the biggest and oldest park in Darmstadt, Germany.

Staatstheater Darmstadt

The Staatstheater was found in the year 1972, when the new building was finished at the Georg-Büchner-Platz and was renovated in the years 2002 – 2006.
